  • Stand and feel your feet on the floor. Open to the felt sense of the whole body.
  • Start walking very slowly – lift, swing, place – staying aware of the whole body.
  • If you lose track, stop, stand, tune in again, then carry on. At the end of your path, pause and turn around.
  • Vary the speed – try it at your ordinary walking pace too, keeping the body awareness.
  • If whole body awareness isn’t happening, or the mind is very active, put the attention in the feet instead. Notice the changing sensations as each foot lifts, swings, and is placed – where there’s pressure, how the weight shifts.
  • Walk outside if you can. If birds, ants, or trees catch your attention, enjoy them for a few seconds, then come back.
  • Walking will usually be less steady than sitting, and that’s fine. It helps integrate what comes up in sitting. Walking can be very enjoyable – allowing what feels good is part of the practice.
